Just a quick note to say that it's NOT just you. I also have a towering pile of rejections from this year, and the accompanying worry about WTF I'm doing. I had a piece published this week and, almost immediately, got another rejection! I would be lost without having this space to write the things I care about even if no editor would ever commission them.

Ah, Aisling, happy birthday to you and your publication.I have enjoyed reading it immensely. All you say about neurodivergent writers being stereotyped into neurodivergent-themed pieces I get, and I am possibly pidegen-holing myself also. But I will do my best to continue doing it my way. Also, the rejection and childhood focus observations you noted yes, my gut feels it too.
Something that comes up in the community I work in so much with children being the main focus and parents and many autistic adults just left to find a way. It also doesn't help with the infantalization of autism. I too, like many other adults, experience.
Keep writing on your terms when and how you can. I have finished up my longer form for 2023 myself, as sitting for hours writing was not my intention, but I felt myself sucked into it, and then I was like, "hang on, this is an addictive behaviour," so I had to have a word with myself and chill. The thesis afterburn is real even a year on for me!

Also just saved your Alice in Wonderland piece. My absolute favourite. I have a really old 1957 copy of the book with some of the original character sketches! Joy.
